The last Integrated Weeks course that TPA planned to delivery at the University of Mining and Geology within 2009, entitled Applied Geostatistics and was initiated on 24 November at Room 804, 12 Storey C Building.
Football The course is instructed by Professor André Haas (TPA), who graduated in 1964 from Ecole des Mines, Nancy (France), worked as a Petroleum Geostatistics expert with Elf Exploration and Production and, from 1999-2001, as a lecturer on Applied Mathematics in Post-Master's courses at UPPA, Pau (France). Professor Haas also experienced conferences at Stanford University in 2000, Edmonton University in 2000 and INRIA Toulouse in 2001, IPGP in Paris in 2009.
Within five days, the course participants were introduced an overview of the Applied Geostatistics in: reservoir estimation and simulation, seismic data integration by geostatistical inversion, geological information integration by the Bayesian approach. After recalling Notions of probability and statistics on the first day, the course continued with Estimation and simulation of uncertainties in space, and focused on Application to petroleum reservoirs with theoretical tools: the different types of kriging, the simulation of continuous variables, the simulation of discrete variables: geological facies or rock types. This course helped participants understanding and practicing on stochastic methods in geology, geophysics, reservoir engineering taking account of all uncertainties associated with earth models and gave them the imagination of a large set of possible realizations of oil and gas reservoirs compatible with available data and geological knowledge. There was a quiz at the end of each day and a test at the end of the course.
